Pending 2025 opening is March 1st.
I do the best I can within my circumstances. Being rude, short-tempered, demanding, threatening, or feeling as if you have some level of entitled audacity will get you blocked. I work a FT & PT job, volunteer at an animal shelter, and manage a hobby farm on my own. Things get busy, problems pop up, days get long. This is nowhere near a major source of income for me, and I can stop at any time. My only goal is to improve on breeds, protect the rare, promote healthy birds, and share my surplus with other people like others have done for me. Please be respectful and mindful of people on the other side of the screen. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.

NorthWoods Poultry (NWP) does not refund, exchange, credit, or offer discounts from purchases in partial or whole and assumes no responsibility or liability once the shipping courier takes custody of the package. All claims made due to, but not limited to, delays, damages, lost parcels, stolen goods, negligence, damaged packaging, or other factors not listed should be handled directly with the United Stated Postal Service.
>>IT IS *YOUR* RISK.<<

- The two shipping options are USPS Flat-Rate Priority Mail (most common) & Priority Mail Express (“faster” but more expensive). Lost packages are insured up to $100.
- Specify if you want the package delivered to your home or held for pick up. I will mark the package as best as possible, but I cannot control if the PO does not do as instructed. I am not responsible for packages left outside in extreme weather conditions or precipitation. I'd recommend you contact the PO in advance and provide them with the tracking number, so the employees are prepared in advance.
- Buyer-cancelled orders will be refunded in full if it hasn’t been shipped. There are no refunds on shipped orders. Repeated cancellations from a buyer will be placed on a DNS list.
- Cancelled orders due to issues on my end will be fully refunded (ie: bird death) or buyer may choose from other birds I have available or late-ship upon bird’s recovery if ill/injured.
- I do not ship day-old chicks. I ship fully feathered birds 10 weeks of age or older.
- Depending on age/size, some birds will require a companion or two to travel safely.
- Most pullets will need to be paired with a cockerel.
- Temps for shipping birds may vary. No birds will be shipped if the temp is 80°F or above.
- Lower temperatures are more flexible than high temps.
- I do not breed birds with obvious genetic deformities. These birds are removed from the breeding program.
- I cannot guarantee deformities will not appear in later generations.
- All known defects are disclosed prior to sale as well as pictures.
- Questions about my breed lines are welcome at any time.
- Thank you for taking the time to read this policy. If you are interested in ordering, please comment the word ‘kitten’ in your message to verify.
- I make no claims or guarantees as to the resulting chicks being of any type or quality (ex: show, breeder, pet, etc.).
- Once received, your handling, incubator, and incubation process will play another large role in the success of your hatch. I highly advocate the use of *calibrated* secondary thermometers and hygrometers during incubation. Brand new, right out of the box incubators can be off on their settings. Keep your incubator clean and sanitized between hatches and make sure you are only handling eggs with clean hands. Consider the cleanliness of hatching eggs from each seller if mixing multiple orders in an incubator. Always handle cleaner eggs first so you don't potentially add bacteria from a dirtier eggshell to cleaner one. Happy hatching! – Lisa
- Temps for shipping birds/eggs must be between 35°F-83°F. Ideally, eggs hatching shipment temps do best between 53-58°F. Any higher/lower, you may want to consider some internal temperature measures. Hot/cold packs are available to include in your shipment if needed.
- Please indicate any additional delivery instructions for your order. Such as if the Post Office should hold your package at the building and a phone number to reach you.
- I'd recommend you contact the PO in advance and provide them with the tracking number, so the employees are prepared in advance. I do not take responsibility if the PO fails to call you or hold it for pick up even when labels are present.
- LIVE BIRDS: Do NOT leave your bird(s) sit at the Post Office all day. You should have plans in place to have the bird(s) picked up on arrival. I can see pick up times. It’s an insult that I put in the effort to make sure your bird gets there healthy and alive only have it sit in a small box all day or overnight. Repeat timely pick-up failures will be placed on a DNS list.
- Once the eggs get to you - your handling, incubator, and incubation process will also play another large role in the success of your hatch. I highly advocate for the use of secondary thermometers and hygrometers during incubation. Brand new, right out of the box incubators can be off on their settings. Using accurate, calibrated equipment should greatly increase your success. Keep your incubator clean and sanitized between hatches and make sure you are only handling eggs with clean hands.
- Also consider cleanliness of hatching eggs from each seller if mixing multiple orders in an incubator. Always handle cleaner eggs first so you don't potentially add bacteria from a dirtier eggshell to cleaner one.
- I vaccinate for mycoplasma and infectious coryza, take preventative measures for coccidia, and provide supplements to my birds.** However, this does not prevent diseases or infectious from happening or spreading. I sell birds that are visibly healthy, but please do your due diligence.
- I do not entertain baseless claims about the health status of my flock. I am in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Animal Health and seek guidance to any health concerns per their or my veterinarian's recommendations, as my animals come first. I have solitarily invested thousands of dollars into my flock since 2021; incubators, hundreds of hatching eggs, live birds, and building materials, to feed, medications, supplements and more. It is in my best interest, financially and emotionally, to keep a strong, healthy flock.
- I highly recommend you quarantine new birds for a minimum of 2 weeks, preferably 30 days, prior to introducing them into your flock.
- For bio-security purposes, quarantined birds should be handled AFTER you have handled your main flock. Ideally, you should practice a night of ‘downtime’ prior to re-visiting your main flock with clean, dry clothing, clean footwear, and clean arms/hands. Infection through indirect contact is possible.
- I cannot guarantee the bird does not come into contact with other birds or avian species that transmit disease once in transit. I cannot guarantee the bird does not develop an illness due to stress. This is why it is important to practice bio-security.
