- There is ALWAYS a risk when shipping fertile eggs. Eggs are not designed to withstand shipping. We make NO GUARANTEES for hatching rates. We check fertility regularly through hatching chicks from the same pens we sell from as well as cracking open eggs. Ideally, we keep 1 rooster per 8-10 hens. Roosters are replaced by 3 years old or if poor fertility is discovered. We will always readily share hatch rates with customers
- Keep in mind, just because an egg doesn't develop does NOT mean it wasn't fertile. Factors encountered during transit or inconsistencies in incubating methods may have prevented the embryo from developing.
- We do not offer refunds after eggs have been shipped. Please communicate with us in advance to let us know if your plans change.
- Once a package leaves our site, we do not want you to ship it back due to bio-security reasons.
- Let us know what month works best for your delivery (March, April, etc.). We will try our best to fulfill your order in the preferred time. Once you place your order, we cannot make changes unless we have a cancellation. However, we make no guarantees as to precise days as we cannot predict the laying cycle of the hens. We will be in constant communication with you as your pending order draws near.
- As they say, "The hen has the last word."
- Please indicate in the notes any additional instructions such as if the Post Office should hold your package and a phone number to reach you.
- It would also be a good idea to contact the PO in advance and provide them with tracking numbers so the employees are prepared in advance. Many Post Offices are very accommodating.
- We highly advise you consider temperatures the eggs may be exposed to during shipment. Long periods of exposure to hot or cold may adversely effect the success of hatching. Order hatching eggs when your climate is appropriate for shipping.
- We offer a couple heat pack options to add to your order if you're concerned about temperature.
- We take every measure possible to ensure your eggs come protected and undamaged. They will be as securely packed as possible in shock absorbing materials. We will try to send extras (if there is availability) to compensate for any broken eggs.
- There is $100 insurance applied to all packages sent out via Priority Mail & Priority Mail Express.
- We will do our best to mark your package as "fragile," "live fertile eggs," "this side up," "no x-ray," as well as place the shipping label on the top so eggs are oriented with pointy side down. However, how packages are handled, stacked, stored etc. while in transit is out of our control. Pressure changes in flight, vehicle or mechanical breakdowns or delays, and even lost packages - these are all things we cannot control while your package is in transit. If your item has been delayed, please call the courier immediately with your tracking order for more information. We are at the mercy of couriers once the package leaves our hands.
- Once the eggs get to you, your handling, incubator, and incubation process will also play another large role in the success of your hatch.
Are you NPIP certified?
- Yes! We are also an Authorized Poultry Testing Agent (APTA) for the state of Minnesota. This means we have the capability to test and submit samples from our own flock as well as others.
- NPIP #:
- Agent #: (Class completed on 1/24/23!)
- In addition, our flock is also tested for several other communicable diseases (see icons below). We want to be able to ship our hatching eggs to as many locations as possible.
Do you ship chicks or just hatching eggs?
- We only ship hatching eggs. There are too many instances of chicks and ducklings dying due to being delayed in transit, either becoming too cold or too hot. We decided that shipping chicks was not for us.
Do you offer live pick up of chicks or hatching eggs?
- Yes - live pick up is available for either. Chicks should be pre-ordered at least 4-5 weeks in advance. This will give us time to collect enough eggs and incubate (21 days). We don't incubate unless there are orders for chicks.
- For biosecurity reasons, we ask that you remain at the end of the driveway to receive your order. This is to help prevent cross contamination between your flock and ours, regardless of NPIP status.
Do you offer sexing of chicks? Do you take back
Unless it is an auto-sexing breed, we only offer chicks as STRAIGHT RUN.
How much is shipping?
- Cost to ship anywhere in the continental U.S. is $25.00 up to one dozen.
- We use flat-rate shipping boxes provided through the USPS. Shipping prices are subject to change only if flat-rate prices change.
What happens if eggs break?
- Again, there is always that risk. However, we will try to provide extra eggs in your shipment if availability allows.
My package was delivered damaged- what do I do?!
What time of the year can you ship hatching eggs?
- Approximately March-August. Weather permitting, I could start as early as February or as late as April. It all depends on the hens' laying schedule and as long as the temperatures remain above freezing in our area. One or 2 heat packs may be added just in case.
Can I visit the farm and see the birds?
- Because this is an NPIP farm, visitations are not permitted. This is to keep our farm bio-secure from any outside diseases that may be tracked in on people and/or vehicles.
Do you take returns? Do you take back roosters?
- No - once the eggs have been shipped or picked up, we cannot accept returns.
- No - I do not take back roosters. However, I highly encourage you try posting an ad in a rooster rehoming group on Facebook, try to sell him locally, process him as a meat bird, post an ad on Craigslist, or add him to your flock (if he's a good rooster and you're able).
How is the fertility?
- Fertility is checked continuously throughout the laying season to ensure our roosters are doing their job. A couple different roosters are among the hens at any given time. If we find our fertility drop, we will notify those waiting on eggs from that group of the issue until we can find a resolution. We will give you options for refund, short ship, or substitute in availability allows.
