About NorthWoods Friesians...
I've loved Friesian horses for a very long time. This has been an on-going love for over 20 years now.
I remember seeing my first one in The Ultimate Horse Book (Elwyn Hartley Edwards, 1991) which I had received as a gift when I was about 10 years old. And in the late 90's, when the internet finally came into our home, I was about 12 or 13 years old and I took complete advantage of this new technology. I did all sorts of research on horses - especially my beloved Friesian where I learned all about the keurings, stallion approvals/numbers, and seeing the 'trademark' pure white halters contrast against a striking black horse. |
NWF was a dream that's been coming down the pipeline for quite a while now. Due to some advancing health issues, and the wear and tear on me physically after working over a decade in swine production, I wasn't able to enjoy the rigorous activities I once had. Even short horseback rides had become difficult.

I've always loved grooming horses as it seemed to satisfy my attention for high level of detail. And I also enjoyed working with and teaching young horses. So, I decided to put my education, interests, and experience in genetics and animal reproduction to good use. And what better way to do so then applying my efforts to advance my favorite breed of horse.
The name "NorthWoods Friesians" was a fairly simplistic idea. And yes, the correct spelling is with capital letters N, W, and F. When most people think of Minnesota, they think of being 'up North' - lakes, forests, cold, snow, buffalo plaid, and very rustic. And while, to some extent, there is some truth behind it, this friendly stereotype became the reason behind the name. The "Woods" was a very obvious choice also as I tend to be very outdoorsy and enjoy being among tall trees and dense forest. It's my happy place!

While the "official" full-operation date has yet to come, there are still several elements being worked on.
I decided it would be a fun journey for friends, family, affiliates, and Friesian horse fans alike to join in on this experience as NWF comes together. If you haven't already, you can now find me on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube - lots of content to come! |
And I'm taking on this dream financially independent from any other contributions. My hope is that NWF can inspire others out there to follow through with their own dreams and goals. That it is possible to achieve amazing things if you set your mind to it. Not everything will happen overnight, but in time, stay focused and it's yours!
