Horse Registration

No matter your choice, all of my horses are thoughtfully bred for to bring out the best traits as possible.
I breed for quality.. never quantity.
  • KONINKLIJKE VERENIGING "HET FRIESCH PAARDEN-STAMBOEK" (KFPS) / FRIESIAN HORSE ASSOCIATION OF NORTH AMERICA (FHANA):
    • This is the primary registry I use for all purebred Friesian horses within my program. The Dutch people worked diligently to save the Friesian horse and their efforts are why we are able to enjoy this treasure of a breed today. The KFPS has implemented rigorous measures and standards to help the Friesian horse prosper and find purpose in the modern world. I'm extremely grateful for those efforts and enjoy the challenges this registry has moving forward to reach those goals.

  • FRIESIAN HERITAGE HORSE (FHH):
    • All of the Friesian crossbreds (+50% Friesian) will be registered with FHH.  I recognize the growing market for crossbreds has gained substantially over the years. A crossbred can be an excellent stepping stone onto a purebred if you're new the Friesian. Or, if you've always dreamed of owning a Friesian but not so much the price tag that can come with it. FHH has established themselves as an excellent, inclusive, credible registry dedicated to horses with Friesian in their pedigree.
All of the horses bred in our program are registered with the suffix "fan de NorthWoods" ("of the NorthWoods")
which is exclusive through the KFPS/FHANA.

Purchase Agreement Terminology & Definitions

  • NWF/SELLER - NorthWoods Friesians
  • BUYER - A non-NorthWoods Friesians entity purchasing horse(s)
  • PURCHASE HORSE/HORSE - Individual horse of a certain age, sex, or life-stage being sold to the BUYER.
  • PURCHASE CONTRACT - Document declaring sales of a certain HORSE at NWF, outlines BUYER and SELLER responsibilities and expectations to ensure a pleasant, uncomplicated transaction for all parties.

These are the definition of terms implied when referring to a horse of a certain age:
  • In-Utero: An unborn foal of unknown sex.
  • Foal: A young horse that has been born and is under the care of their dam.
  • Weanling: A horse that is no longer nursing from the mare, eating solid foods. NWF weans at 6 months old.
  • Yearling: A horse that has reached January 1st of the next year following birth.**
  • Adolescent, Young Adult or Adult: Any horse 2 years of age or older.
**January 1st is considered the "birthday" for all horses, not the actual date of birth, for simplified purchase contract purposes.

These are the definition of terms implied when referring to a horse of a certain sex:
  • Filly: A female horse less than 4 years of age.
  • Mare: A female horse 4 years of age or greater.
  • Colt: A male horse less than 4 years of age.

Any horse suspected to be or has been diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian to have cryptorchidism, intersex, or other reproductive anomaly will be fully disclosed immediately to potential purchaser as well as displayed in the horse's profile and advertisements.

Payment Plans

I understand that the purchase of a Friesian or Friesian cross can be an enormous financial undertaking all at once. I do offer payment plans to spread the cost over a longer period of time. And, unlike a bank or other loans, you do not gain interest on your remaining balance. You are never penalized for paying off the remaining balance early or making additional payments - EVER.
The 'maximum' payment schedule goes out to 12 months (1 year) of signing date. This is to make sure I have room to accommodate any new arrivals come next foaling season. However, this may be extended out further dependent upon if and when how many foals are expected.**
Horses greater than 7 months of age are subject to a small boarding fee at the minimal cost possible of $100 per month. This is mainly to help pay for the cost of hay. Because we operate in a very agriculture-heavy area of Minnesota, hay is usually readily available and we have several local sources that provide us with excellent quality grass hay each year.
We will pro-rate the boarding cost. If your horse only spends a few extra days with us, you will not be expected to pay for a full month.
Two-Month (3 payments)
  • 10% down of total purchase price
  • Split remaining balance over next 2 months

Needing some extra time or breathing room to make payments? No problem! Contact me about extending your current plan so that you can lower your monthly payments and still keep them on time. Maximum of 12 months total from signing date still applies unless extension time is available**. Horses 7 months of age or older will still have a $100/month boarding cost added to help cover the additional cost of hay.
