White fibro bird
Breed: "Nordix/Nordic Eggers"
A bird designed with cold regions in mind.

Overall: NEs have small pea combs along with very small or absent wattles. The black (fibro) skin was utilized to help absorb sunlight during the winter if the bird is out foraging while keeping relatively camouflaged by the light feather coloring against the snow. During the summer, the darker skin acts as a first line of defense against sunburn due to the melanin being present. While the lighter feather color is not as effective for hiding during the warmer months, it does act reflective against the sun's stronger UV rays. This is an attempt to help keep the bird cool during the summer due to the smaller comb size and small or absent wattles. This bird is an excellent, attentive forager.

Hens: Selection is placed on hens to lay icy blue eggs and to provide 4-5 per week. She should be docile and easy to handle. Broodiness: Low-Moderate. Because we want the hens to put more effort into laying continuously, we do not select for high broodiness.

Roosters: Only the most vigilant, docile roosters are utilized. He may not be the cuddliest towards people, but you can rest easy knowing he will take care of the hens as well as not look at you as a threat.

Meat: Selection is placed on the use of heavier birds so that this breed can be utilized as a dual purpose.

If you're like me, you spend a great deal of your year living in cold temperatures. Minnesota is a land of extremes. While summers can be brutally hot and humid, in excess of 95+ degree days with a heat index well over 100 for days on end, it can be equally extremely frigid with temps easily plummeting below zero for several days. High winds, blizzard sand white out conditions leading to -30s and -40s - even dipping just into the -60s during a polar vortex!  For this reason, FEs have small pea combs along with very small or absent pea wattles. Their .

How did I come up name? A simple typing error! As I was typing out the word "Nordic," I accidentally hit the "x" instead of "c" and loved the way it looked!
